Due to personal reasons this railway is closed for the foreseeable future
There is a brand new railway in “The Railways” list, number 46 Maesbury Marsh,
Our Chairman Lofty has been to have a look and he says its coming on nicely and well worth a visit. His short report follows.
Having seen a review of a new 10 ¼“ line and the sun shining for the first time this year went to visit ! Maesbury Marsh Miniature Railway
The location of this line is, Coed y Rae Lane, Maesbury Shropshire SY10 8JG
( follow signs for Maesbury road industrial estate and turn south opposite the main entrance signpost for Maesbury, sign on lane corner shortly after Maesbury school to the canal side cafe)
Found the line not running but helpfull owner soon on site, the open day in May was just that, an open day and it is hoped to fully open to the public in August.
The stock consists of a steam Canadian style 4.6.4 tender locomotive completed in 1941 by P.H.Routledge an engineer / inventor of Mission City Canada.
She hauls a pair of bogie coaches reputed to be from a pier line in Kent.
There is also a pair of small 4w i/c locos after the style of lister NG loco`s.
The line is in the form of a circuit, with a siding, feeding a traverse to a three road shed.
There is an exelent cafe on site, as well as cycle hire, canoe hire and a very good horse drawn canal trip, all in aid of the canal restoration
