The Queen Mary’s Hospital Railway also known as the Stonecot Hill Railway was a 10 1/4 inch gauge miniature railway located in the grounds of Queen Mary’s Children’s Hospital at Carshalton in Surrey.
The railway operated between 1968 and 1997 when it was forced to close along with the hospital. The site was subsequently redeveloped as a housing estate, although the route of the railway is still largely undeveloped. An article about the railway was published in Miniature Railway Magazine number 21 (Winter 2012/13).
During a visit in November 2015 it was a surprise to find three sections of railway track still in place at the site of three level crossings near the site of Queen Mary’s North station and Queen Mary’s Central station. Report and pictures by Jonathan James.
